Jimmy Jones- Favorite Recitations

Today we archived the acclaimed 1986 album “Favorite Recitations” by Jimmy Jones. Jimmy was born February 5th, 1921 on a small farm in Scottsdale, Kentucky, and passed away June 12th, 2006 in Marietta, Georgia at 85 years old. Jones was in 9 different groups in his gospel career, as well as his standalone performances and albums. Jimmy was one of eleven children growing up on the family’s rural farm in Kentucky, and served in the US Army Medical Division in the Second World War. In 1951, Jimmy joined an ensemble, the Rangers Quartet, that was involved in a devastating automobile accident that killed their baritone singer Erman Slater. Offering to sing bass in the quartet, Jimmy stepped into the group 6 days after the tragic inident, filling in the spot for “one of the greatest bass singers in gospel music history.” The Rangers Quartet were broadcast on over 450 radio stations all over the country through their association with Liberty Broadcasting.

The gospel journey went on for Jimmy Jones, as he served a 12 year tenure with the LeFevres. He became widely recognized as a gospel singer in this era, the Leferves were briefly apart of a traveling collection known as the Gospel Singing Caravan. The collective was comprised of four different gospel groups that toured and released several albums for the label Sing Records, which was owned by the Leferves until 1966 when it was sold and merged with Skylite Records. Jimmy was invited into the Southern Gospel Music Association in 2007, the year following his passing, and was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall Of Fame in 1993. Jones was also a recipient of the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion Living Legend Award in 1995. Archived natively below and on YouTube in sequential order.
