39 Dismembered Tennesseans tracks were uploaded to the archive today. The first mention of them in the Chattanooga Daily Times was in 1949. The group performed together for over half a century, one of their first shows being live hillbilly music at the free Chattanooga Valley Kiwanis Club Farm Show Barbecue of 1950. Events there included a greased-pig chase, hog-calling contests, and plates of food offered at 75 cents or a dollar and a quarter. The group was surprised how lucrative live music was when starting to do shows in the mid to late 40’s. The New Dismembered Tennesseans are active to this day, last performing at the 3 Sisters festival in Chattanooga in October of this year.

We recommend watching the documentary about the group for more information, which was uploaded to the archive earlier this year. View our collection of all things Dismembered Tennesseans for more music. We have also made available newspaper clippings of the group below, certain articles being more than 75 years old. You can stream this album at the end of the page or find the double-album on YouTube as well.
