The second tape from volume one of Hog Man’s “Too Hot For T.V.” series. Included is an article/ interview with Isham from 1997 where he goes into detail about owning hog farms in the past, sometimes 40 hogs at a time. During his days, Hogman was a frequent performer in Ciderville and spent a lot of time with the Bat Poet, who was a public access television legend for more than a decade. Jerry was a member of the Knoxville Songwriter Association for over 30 years, a video of him with the group is here. Hogman produced numerous tapes and CDs full of his swine-like renditions of songs, whether it be an inappropriate reworking or a hog-influenced lyrical rehash of a radio hit. As mentioned before, Jerry was a veteran and owned Jerry’s Boat Sales in Midtown, Tennessee for 20 years before moving to Brentwood after selling the shop. This is where he began the music.

Jerry told the songwriter association he worked on three songs at once “so he wouldn’t get bored.” He was known to bring several new songs a week, most of them comic commentaries, from politics to human nature. Starting from the title of a song, he worked his way down to the chorus next, then making the verses support the chorus. Writing at least one verse a day, Hogman kept a “hook book” nearby for fleeting song ideas, starting a new notebook each year. View our digital collection of Hog Man’s work at here. We have collected a YouTube playlist of Hogman’s videos as well. Too Hot For T.V. Vol. 1 B is available for listening below or on YouTube.
